How Are Jenny Worrall Table Lamps Made?
Jenny Worrall has a team of in-house artists using established, labour intensive techniques to create each individual table lamp. The glass is skilfully mouth blown into a various shapes such as: urn, oval, round or bulbous shapes. Each lamp is decorated using a variation of Potichomania, a decorative art form that originates from the 1800’s and was designed to make glass look like porcelain.
What is the Technique of Portichomania?
The Victorian art form of Portichomania involves coating the inside of a glass (in this case a glass table lamp) with various intricate decoupage images - a paper decoration method – to give the glass a painted effect.
The technique of Portichomania uses printed paper designs that are coated to the inside of glass and glazed with superb results. Jenny Worrell uses a combination of decoupage images and various paint finishes to outstanding effect. The end products are traditional table lamps that buyers will treasure well into the future and these designer lamps are likely to be passed down through generations.
Jenny Worrall table lamps are admired in homes and businesses up and down the country and are considered archetypal English works of art.
What is the Inspiration Behind the Designs?
Jenny Worrall takes her inspiration from the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Royal Horticultural Society Lindley Library where she has been given exclusive rights over some of the images. The various collections of Jenny Worrall table lamps include: Neoclassical and Oriental, Botanical, Natural History, the Victorian and Albert Museum Collection and the Royal Horticultural Society Collection.
Some of the Jenny Worrall Natural History designer side lamp collection feature animals (such as elephants or giraffes), while much of the Neoclassical and Oriental collection shows historical scenes.
Other collections are inspired by the English countryside and are decorated with attractive, delicate floral designs such as: tulips, daisies, rhododendrons, orchids, cherry blossoms, blue iris or white magnolia. She also has produced elegant table lamps that display Chinese butterflies, fruit or birds such as swans.
Each of the Jenny Worrell table lamps are created with extra thick glass and this special thickness not only produces a 3-D effect, but it also makes the glass tougher and more durable.
What Shapes and Colours of Table Lamps Can I Buy?
Jenny Worrall side lights come in all shapes and sizes – small or large – and in a wide spectrum of colours varying from white, blue, green, yellow and light grey. Each beautiful design is available either with or without knife pleated shades.
Her stunning creations suit all sorts of interiors from homes, to businesses, hotels and other corporate establishments and are individually made to order. They are suitable for a wide range of rooms from: reception areas to drawing rooms, libraries, living rooms, bedrooms, offices and hallways.
If you are decorating a new home, it is important to add things of beauty that you will love as this transforms a house into a home. By investing in something hand-made and individual, you will cherish and value it long into the future. Jenny Worrall lamps will not only be admired by you, but also your guests too, and they are likely to become a talking point in your home.
Jenny Worrall side lights suit anything from traditional establishments, or contemporary homes. There is something wonderful about owning a traditional handmade piece, rather than buying a mass produced item, and this is why it’s always worth spending that little bit extra on something you will admire.
