About Brass Chandeliers
Chandeliers were used as far back as the Middle Ages and originally took the form of a wooden cross with spikes to hold candles. They became a symbol of luxury and status and lit up the castles and homes of the wealthy.
From the 16th century brass chandeliers were used in churches before being gradually introduced into palaces and affluent homes. Designs slowly became more elaborate and different materials were used, including gilt bronze in the early 18th century and later light reflecting lead crystals.
A brass chandelier is a luxurious addition to the home and adds grandeur to a hallway, sitting room, dining room or bedroom. Choose from simple single tier designs to more elaborate multi-tier brass chandeliers; a contemporary style brass chandelier or a striking a brass and crystal chandelier. Brass chandeliers with shades give a personal touch to your home or go for candle-style lighting for a traditional look.
A brass chandelier needs less maintenance than other types of chandelier. Just give it a wipe with a dry, soft cloth to clean it. As brass is a non-corrosive material it does not rust, so a brass chandelier will look good for many years to come.
Traditional Brass Chandeliers
Traditional brass chandeliers come in many different styles ranging from the simple single tier rope and tassel designs to elegant three or five arm chandeliers with classic glass shades or more elaborate multi-tiered designs. Whichever style you choose, a traditional brass chandelier adds splendour to any room. In the dining room a striking ornate brass chandelier can make a great talking point when hung above the centre of a solid wood or glass dining table.
Dutch/Flemish Style Brass Chandeliers
Dutch/Flemish style brass chandeliers or ceiling lights are a particular type of brass chandelier with a centre stem of alternating narrow and bulbous widths and arms bending down around a low hung ball. This style of light adds charm to your home and looks elegant and sophisticated wherever you decide to hang it.
Contemporary Brass Chandeliers
A contemporary brass chandelier has sleek, clean lines and can act as a work of art in its own right. Modern and contemporary brass chandeliers can literally transform a room and makes a striking statement piece. With a multitude of designs to choose from, they add a wonderful finishing touch to any interior.
The Difference Between Highly Polished and Antique Polished Brass Chandeliers
Highly polished brass chandeliers are sleek and bright and create impact in either a modern or contemporary home. On the other hand, Antique polished brass chandeliers have a charming, older appearance which adds grace and splendour to your interior. Styles include crystal chandeliers, antique French chandeliers, vintage chandeliers, brass chandeliers with glass shades, brass and porcelain chandeliers.
